Alan W. Duncan, Immediate Past-President of the North Carolina Bar Association, practices in Greensboro with Turning Point Litigation – Van Laningham Duncan PLLC. A past president of the N.C. Association of Defense Attorneys, he served on the NCBA Board of Governors from 2004-07 and is a past chair of the Litigation Section and the Trial Practice Curriculum Committee. Duncan is a 1976 graduate of Davidson College and 1979 graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Law. He was elected to the Guilford County Board of Education in 2000 and has served since 2002 as its chair. He was honored in 2011 by the NCBA Litigation Section as the recipient of the Advocate’s Award and in 2007 as a recipient of the NCBA's Citizen Lawyer Award. A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is a two-time recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
